ENTOM 4610 Model-Based Phylogenetics and Hypothesis Testing (2022SP)
This course is an introduction to the “tree of life” (phylogeny): its conceptual origins, methods for discovering its structure, how phylogenies are used in macroevolution, and its importance in evolutionary biology and other areas of science. Topics include historical context and concepts, sources of data, methods of phylogenetic analysis, and the use of phylogenies to study systematics and classification, the tempo and mode of lineage diversification, coevolution, biogeography, conservation, molecular biology, development, and epidemiology.

Hemp Processing 2022 (All Sections)
This course covers the principles and practices used to create a diverse array of food, extract and fiber products from hemp, Cannabis sativa L.. Lectures will describe key products and production practices, highlighting how hemp products compare to those produced from other materials. Discussion sections will review scientific studies relevant to industrial hemp products and processing and provide opportunities to interact with key industry leaders. Lab sections will give student hands-on experience using a broad array of analytical and processing equipment. This is an upper- division course in which students will be given flexibility to tailor some course components toward their own interests and will be expected to take initiative in their own learning.

VTPMD 6108 Applied Data Analysis (2022SP)
Spring. 1 credit. Letter grades only. Enrollment is limited to MPH Students and Graduate Students by permission. Y. Li. This is a lab-based course aiming to assist students who are taking Biostatistics for Health Sciences (VTPMD 6015). It will include hands-on experiences with Stata and R programs and a few lectures that reinforce the materials covered in the lectures. The labs will provide a forum for discussing homework solutions, assigned articles, and additional examples of statistical analysis. Students will work individually with faculty and academic assistants on real-world datasets.
